Professional experience

Volunteer Web UX Designer, Website Optimization Feb 2026 – Present

Sierra Overlook Animal Rescue · Remote

  • Audited the full Wix site and resolved UX friction across navigation, content hierarchy, and core conversion flows including adoption, donation, and volunteer signup.
  • Replaced hamburger menu with horizontal nav bar, redesigned the homepage hero, and restructured the services section from a single column to a two-column grid to reduce cognitive load and improve scannability.
  • Repaired broken footer with correct contact info and active social links; fixed image cropping and button visibility issues across multiple pages.
  • Maintained clear stakeholder communication, a phased project plan, and transparent reporting of platform constraints throughout the engagement.
Staff Nurse / Charge Nurse / House Supervisor May 2016 – Oct 2023

HCA Houston Healthcare Cypress · CHI St. Joseph Hospital · Rock Prairie Behavioral Health

  • Worked in high-acuity clinical environments where clarity, task efficiency, and zero ambiguity are non-negotiable—experience that directly shapes how I approach designing interfaces that need to work under pressure.
  • Supervised staff, coordinated patient workflows, and collaborated across multidisciplinary teams, building strong cross-functional communication and systems thinking.

Technical projects

Portfolio Website, Built From Scratch View Live ↗

HTML · CSS · JavaScript · Figma · GitHub Pages

  • Removed Bootstrap and rebuilt all components from scratch in hand-written CSS and vanilla JS after designing layouts in Figma.
  • Implemented animated canvas background, entrance transitions, custom cursor, responsive mobile nav, scroll-reveal, and accordion project cards entirely in plain JavaScript with no frameworks.
CaloriEat, Full-Stack Calorie Tracking Web App Live (fork) ↗ · Live (team) ↗

HTML · CSS · JavaScript · Node.js · Chart.js

  • Capstone (team): full-stack calorie app—flows for meals, macros, goals, weigh-ins, dashboards; Chart.js; diagrams (use case, data flow, state); MVC + backend/testing alongside UI.
  • Post-grad (fork → PR → merge): forked teammate’s repo for continued work and GitHub Pages; standardized index.html, UI polish (help, insights, share link, food search, footer year), and unauthenticated redirect to welcome. Changes were reviewed and merged into the canonical repo (April 2026); live on both teammates’ Pages deploys. Portfolio shows before/after mockups plus a frozen capstone snapshot (tree fb29950) and then → now diff ↗.
  • Ongoing workflow: future improvements still go through pull requests from my fork into the team repo so history and ownership stay shared—same pattern as shipping fixes in a real org.
Happy Tails Rescue, WordPress Nonprofit Site View Live ↗

WordPress · Elementor · SureForms

  • Built a full nonprofit site from scratch including hero, about, pet profile sections with adoption CTAs, and a SureForms contact form on a custom domain.
  • Designed a custom brand identity including logo, color palette, and typography informed by real volunteer UX observations at Sierra Overlook Animal Rescue.
